What to Do When You Receive A Recall Notice

Recently there has been a lot of media coverage surrounding vehicle recalls, and with good reason. Keeping your vehicle current on any outstanding manufacturer recalls is an important step towards maintaining the safety and performance of your vehicle.

What is a recall?
An auto recall occurs when a manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration determines that a car model, or several models, has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal safety standard. When this happens, the automaker will alert owners to the problem and usually offer a free repair.

What do I do if I get a recall notice?

Contact Fred Martin Nissan and ask for a Service Advisor. You can also visit the “Service & Parts” tab of our website to begin the process online. While you may have received a recall notice, the parts may not yet be available to dealerships. Many times the recall is a software update, and will simply require a few hours in the Service Department to complete. However, sometimes parts are required and may be unavailable due to high demand or the correct part not yet being provided by the manufacturer. By contacting our Service Department ahead of time, you will save time and
frustration by determining if the necessary parts are available to perform the recall.

Can I check for recalls?

While Fred Martin Nissan makes every attempt to contact customers who have an outstanding recall, there are times when a customer may have a recall and not be contacted. This most likely occurs when the owner relocates and does not provide an updated address, or the vehicle is sold and the new owner is difficult to locate. You can visit “Service & Parts” on our website and visit “Check For Recalls” and enter your VIN number. When a recall is issued it is important to note that recalls are VIN specific. While you may own a vehicle that is the same make and model of an issued recall, you must check your specific VIN to determine if your vehicle is included in the recall. Contact the Service Department if your vehicle has an outstanding recall.

Does Fred Martin Nissan fix all manufacturer recalls?

Fred Martin Nissan can fix any recall issued by FCA (Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Fiat). While we physically cannot repair other manufacturer recalls, we can arrange for your vehicle to be sent to the other manufacturer’s repair center. To provide you with the best experience, please contact the Service Department ahead of time to determine availability of parts necessary to perform your recall.
